The Katsina State Government has completed the renovation of the Gidan Kuli groundnut oil mill in Kankia, bringing back to life a once-thriving facility that had been inactive for more than 30 years.
Now fully upgraded and set to resume operations, the revitalised mill is expected to create over 500 direct and indirect jobs, stimulate agro-processing, and offer a stable market for local groundnut farmers. The project, handled by the Katsina Youth Craft Village (KYCV), includes new modern equipment, administrative buildings, shops, and perimeter fencing.
Governor Dikko Radda hailed the facility as a significant economic hub and a symbol of renewed investment in the state’s agricultural roots. Notably, the mill will be managed under the supervision of the Ministry of Women Affairs, with a focus on empowering women in agro-processing.
He emphasized that the centre would serve as a lifeline for thousands of women entrepreneurs across the state and reaffirmed that the initiative is part of his administration’s broader economic diversification strategy.
The move signals a deliberate push to restore groundnut production and processing as a key driver of northern Nigeria’s economy, reinforcing the state’s commitment to job creation, inclusive growth, and agricultural revitalization.
