The Katsina State Government has distributed dry-season agricultural equipment valued at over ₦8.28 billion to farmers across the state’s 34 local government areas. The initiative, aimed at boosting agricultural productivity, was launched on Monday by Governor Dikko Radda at the People’s Square, Muhammadu Buhari House, Katsina.

Equipment Distributed

The distributed items include:

  • 4,000 hand power tillers
  • 4,000 solar-powered water pumps
  • 48,000 bags of fertilizer

These items were provided at subsidized rates to make them accessible to farmers, enhancing their capacity for dry-season farming.

Governor Radda highlighted the administration’s commitment to achieving food security, citing the success of the 2024 cropping season, which yielded a bumper harvest. He reiterated the importance of agriculture as the backbone of Katsina’s economy, contributing significantly to GDP growth, employment generation, and rural development.

Strategic Partnerships

The governor acknowledged the support of key partners, including:

  • NG-CARES
  • IFAD-VCN
  • AfDB-SAPZII

These collaborations have strengthened investment in agriculture, agro-processing, and financial inclusion, ensuring sustainable development in the sector.

Previous Achievements

Governor Radda also referenced the 2023 dry-season farming program, which benefited 2,040 farmers. This program provided:

  • Boreholes
  • Fertilizers
  • Other essential inputs

It supported the cultivation of crops such as tomatoes, onions, and watermelon, enhancing productivity and improving livelihoods statewide.

Looking Ahead

The initiative reflects the Katsina State Government’s dedication to empowering farmers and fostering agricultural development. By providing modern tools and resources, the government aims to sustain the momentum of previous successes, ensuring improved productivity and economic growth in the region.
