Lafarge Africa Empowers Women-Led Businesses with N22 Million Seed Grants

Lafarge Africa, a leading company in innovative and sustainable building solutions, has provided significant support to 60 women-led businesses across thirteen host communities, granting N22 million in seed money. These communities include Akpabuyo, Akampa, Calabar Municipalities, and Ndupani Local Government areas in Cross River State.

 

  The initiative, themed “Empowering Women in Business,” focuses on harnessing the potential of women to drive economic growth. It underscores Lafarge Africa’s commitment to gender equality and the crucial role of women in business.

 

  Milad Hanan, Plant Manager of Lafarge Africa’s Mfamosing plant, praised the women in the community for their leadership in business. He expressed pride in their potential to make a significant impact both locally and nationally.

  Bassey Inyang, Communications and Public Affairs Manager, East, explained that the program is part of Lafarge’s sustainability initiatives, equipping women with business management skills and financial literacy training.

 

Support from Local Authorities

   Mrs. Edema Irom, Commissioner for Women Affairs, commended Lafarge for recognizing the importance of empowering women. She emphasized that supporting women in business is crucial for global development.

  Mrs. Ada Charles, Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Relations, encouraged beneficiaries to use the grants wisely to grow their businesses, acknowledging the positive impact on the community.

 

  Ntiyo Patrick Agbo, Clan Head of Kasuk Qua Clan, thanked Lafarge for their continuous support in various community development projects, including education, water supply, and skills acquisition centers.

 Lawrence Bassey, Chairman of the Community Relations Committee (CRC), emphasized the importance of responsible use of the grants to avoid any negative repercussions for the community.

 

Beneficiaries’ Appreciation

  The program’s beneficiaries expressed their gratitude and commitment to utilizing the grants effectively. Glory Edet thanked Lafarge for helping establish her business, and Idara David appreciated the valuable training received. Mmayen shared her confidence in the program’s positive impact on her business.
