The Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems has opened registration for farmers interested in joining the N500 billion “Produce for Lagos” scheme, an ambitious programme launched in July 2025 to boost food production for the state’s growing population through structured off-take agreements.
The initiative aims to create a secured market where farmers’ produce will be purchased at guaranteed prices, reducing risks linked to quality and volume fluctuations. It is expected to promote price stability for consumers, increase farmers’ incomes, and expand opportunities for inter-state agricultural trade. The programme will also improve logistics, strengthen distribution networks, and enhance the overall food supply chain.
According to the ministry, the scheme focuses on increasing local food production in Lagos while forging strategic partnerships with farmers in major food-producing states across the country. Registered farmers will be integrated into a central database that will guide planning, interventions, and the delivery of support services.
Interested farmers are encouraged to complete their registration through the official link on the ministry’s website.
With a population exceeding 24 million and rapid urban expansion, Lagos remains Nigeria’s largest consumer of food, creating a vast market for agricultural producers. For MSMEs in the agriculture and food value chain, the scheme presents opportunities to secure stable demand, scale production, and participate in an increasingly structured and profitable food supply system.
