Lagos Government Empowers 600 Students with Tech Skills Through Software Quality Assurance Training
Share

The Lagos State Government has empowered over 600 undergraduates across three tertiary institutions with digital skills in Software Quality Assurance (SQA) to prepare them for 21st-century opportunities in the global tech ecosystem.

The three-week training initiative, implemented by Korrekt Tech in collaboration with the Ministry of Tertiary Education, was organized under the leadership of Kappo Olawale, the Senior Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Students’ Union Affairs and Tertiary Education.

Held simultaneously at the College of Health Technology, Yaba, Lagos State University of Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu, and Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Otto-Ijanikin, the program introduced participants to the fundamentals of software testing, static techniques, and pathways into the tech industry.

Speaking at the grand finale, Olawale said the training aligns with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s vision to build a generation of skilled, creative, and future-ready students capable of contributing to Lagos’ digital economy.

“Software Quality Assurance is a vital 21st-century skill,” Olawale said. “We are preparing our students not just to consume technology but to create and lead in a rapidly evolving digital world.”

He encouraged participants to apply their knowledge by launching digital literacy projects, tech hubs, or mentorship groups on their campuses to drive community impact.

The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Sule Tolani, lauded the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful in improving students’ employability and ICT competence across disciplines.

“Technology now cuts across every profession,” Tolani noted. “Equipping students with ICT skills is key to enhancing innovation, productivity, and lifelong learning.”

Korrekt Tech Founder, Rudwan Abdulazeez, praised the students’ enthusiasm, urging private sector investors to support similar empowerment programmes for sustainability. He noted that SQA experts play a vital role in preventing costly software failures by identifying issues before deployment.

Student leaders also applauded the programme’s impact. David Oluwasegun, President of the LASUSTECH Students’ Union, and Adegbite Daniel of LASUED, described the training as a thoughtful initiative that bridges the skills gap among Lagos students.

In his remarks, Dr. Ademola Aderogba, Dean of Students Affairs at LASUSTECH, said the programme directly addressed students’ needs and would “add significant value to their career growth and self-actualisation.”

The SQA training marks another milestone in Lagos State’s drive to promote digital inclusion and youth empowerment through practical, hands-on tech education.
