Lagos Leather Fair 2024: "Leveling Up" to Spur Growth in Africa’s Leather Industry
Share

The Lagos Leather Fair (LLF), an annual event dedicated to showcasing Africa’s burgeoning leather industry, has announced its 2024 edition themed “Leveling Up,” scheduled for June 29-30, 2024, in Lagos. This year’s fair aims to drive the growth and advancement of the African leather ecosystem through various strategic initiatives and discussions.

The organizers highlighted that the 2024 LLF will engage attendees in conversations and initiatives designed to advance the leather industry. Key focus areas include improving socioeconomic impact, adopting sustainable and innovative practices, enhancing industry competition, fostering global partnerships, and improving supply chain efficiency within the industry.

Femi Olayebi, the founder of Lagos Leather Fair, emphasized the fair’s role in promoting the African leather industry. “Over the years, hosting the Lagos Leather Fair has filled us with a purpose to do more and advance the African leather industry. LLF is a celebration of the potential being achieved through locally sourced craftsmanship,” said Olayebi. He also expressed gratitude to sponsors and collaborators for their support in elevating the African leather ecosystem.

The fair will feature expert-led sessions on various niche topics such as brand positioning, visibility, sourcing and manufacturing solutions, photography, and the application of AI tools across the value chain. These sessions aim to provide attendees with valuable insights and practical knowledge to enhance their businesses.

Prof. Muhammad Yakubu, the Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology in Zaria, Kaduna State, noted the significant expenditure on leather importation, which amounted to $800 million in 2022. This underscores the importance of developing the local leather industry to reduce dependency on imports and boost the national economy.

The Lagos Leather Fair 2024 promises to be a pivotal event, fostering innovation, collaboration, and growth within Africa’s leather industry, and paving the way for greater economic opportunities and sustainability.
