Lagos State is preparing to commission a new Agro Food Hub in Abijo, Sangotedo, as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu inspected the project this week with construction already over 90 percent complete.
The 23,000-square-metre hub, being developed by Origin Tech Group, will provide modern storage facilities, trading floors, and structured parking to ease food distribution. Once operational, it is expected to give residents better access to fresh produce while strengthening the state’s decentralised food market system.
For micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in agribusiness, the hub offers an opportunity to cut post-harvest losses, secure structured market access, and operate in an organised space where logistics and distribution are streamlined. With cold storage and modern facilities, farmers and traders who often struggle with spoilage and poor infrastructure will be better positioned to maximise profits.
Origin Tech Group is also developing similar hubs in Agege, Lagos Island, Oregun, and Ikorodu, with additional facilities planned for Epe and Badagry. All will be connected to the central logistics hub at Ketu-Ereyun, creating a network that forms the backbone of Lagos State’s food distribution chain.
Governor Sanwo-Olu was joined during the inspection by Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat and Secretary to the State Government Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin.
The project ties into the state’s broader N500 billion Produce for Lagos programme, launched earlier this year to drive food security and reduce dependence on external supply chains. The initiative, which follows the Lagos Agricultural Roadmap of 2021, focuses on boosting agricultural production, modernising storage and distribution, and ensuring a reliable food supply for the state’s growing population.
By linking farmers, traders, and food entrepreneurs directly into this system, the hubs are positioned to become a major catalyst for MSME growth in Lagos’s agricultural value chain.
