Lagos State Government Shuts Down Businesses for Environmental Violations in Ikorodu
Share

The Lagos State Government has shut down several establishments in Ikorodu, including bakeries, hotels, bars, churches, and a quarry site, for breaching environmental laws. This action was led by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), which conducted an enforcement drive targeting areas such as Itokin Road, Maya, Erunwen, Elepe Road, Awolowo Way, Ijede Road, and the Igbogbo Road area.

Tokunbo Wahab, Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, confirmed the closures via a statement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. He noted that LASEPA’s actions are part of its ongoing commitment to uphold environmental standards and protect public health. “In an effort to combat noise pollution and other environmental violations, LASEPA took decisive action today, shutting down multiple establishments across different parts of the state,” Wahab stated.

The affected establishments include prominent names like Le Silhouette Hotel, Walik Hotel, Rhonny’s Place, National Conference of the Calvary Cross, Cherubim & Seraphim Church, Stop Over Inn, Bigcat Bakery, Girrong Hotel & Bar, Tois Bar & Holiday Inn, along with other businesses.

This enforcement aligns with a larger crackdown by the Lagos State government on environmental violations. Major markets such as Mile 12, Ladipo, and Oyingbo have previously faced temporary closures and were only allowed to reopen upon meeting sanitary and environmental standards.

Commissioner Wahab emphasized that these actions support the state’s mission to maintain a clean, safe, and sustainable environment for residents. He reiterated that future enforcement efforts would continue to ensure compliance, accountability, and public health protection across all sectors, with a clear warning that environmental breaches will not be tolerated.
