Lagos State Introduces Cashless Payments for Omi Bus Ferry Service And Streamline Transport For Businesses
Share

The Lagos State Government has implemented a cashless payment system for the newly launched Omi Bus Ferry Service, allowing passengers to pay with Cowry Cards, the contactless payment method used across Lagos’ transit networks. This innovation, announced by the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), aims to simplify fare transactions and create a unified transportation experience across Lagos, making daily commutes more efficient for both residents and business commuters.

With the Cowry Card, passengers can now travel cash-free, reducing transaction times and enhancing convenience. This initiative aligns with the state’s commitment to a modern, interconnected transport system, benefiting those who rely on quick and reliable transit.

LASWA has prioritized safety in the Omi Bus Ferry Service by partnering with LASACO Assurance to provide comprehensive insurance coverage for passengers. The ferries come equipped with essential safety features, including life jackets, fire extinguishers, life buoys, non-slip mats, and a public address system. In addition, modern amenities such as USB charging ports, LED lighting, and an eco-friendly design with low emissions reflect Lagos State’s focus on sustainable and comfortable travel.

This service has garnered international recognition from Interferry, a global association promoting high safety and environmental standards. LASWA encourages both residents and business professionals to consider the Omi Bus Ferry as a reliable and eco-friendly alternative to road travel. This effort supports Lagos State’s broader goal of reducing road congestion, promoting sustainability, and enhancing the city’s economic productivity.
