Lagos State’s presence at the ongoing COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai has showcased two prominent waste conversion initiatives, drawing substantial attention and potential foreign investment.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the secured financing deals for the Advanced Garbage Collection and Waste-to-Energy project, as well as the development of a new Sewage Treatment Plant during an event at the Nigeria Pavilion.

Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted that both projects are at a crucial stage, awaiting technical review by interested investors and the disbursement of funds to translate these concepts into tangible solutions. He emphasized that these initiatives signify a significant leap in Lagos State’s journey toward environmental sustainability and resilience.

Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism that the successful execution of these waste projects would transform the current waste challenge into an opportunity for the state, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to enhancing the lives of Lagosians.

He stated, “Today marks a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainability and resilience. Two of our key initiatives, the Advanced Garbage Collection and Waste-to-Energy project, and the Sewage Treatment Plant, have attracted significant investment interest.”

The governor underscored the necessity for collaboration and partnerships in tackling climate change, affirming the state’s objective to engage committed partners for sustainable solutions to local environmental challenges. Sanwo-Olu highlighted the global climate budget’s focus on sustainable development, encouraging collective action to address environmental pollution and climate change impacts.
