The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) has announced a temporary disruption in water supply to several parts of Lagos to allow for urgent repair and replacement works at the Adiyan I Water Treatment Plant.
In a statement on Tuesday, the corporation said affected areas include Akiode, Ikeja, Magodo, Oregun, Ketu, Ojota, Maryland, Aromire, Ogudu, Gbagada, Shomolu, Ojuelegba, Oyingbo, Ijora Olopa, Agege, and parts of Lagos Island.
LWC explained that the shutdown is necessary to fix a leakage on the ND1600mm Adiyan raw water pipeline at the Akute Intake Station. The persistent water discharge has been saturating the surrounding soil, compromising ground stability and posing safety risks to heavy construction equipment, including cranes and excavators deployed for the Adiyan Phase II project.
“The persistent leakage has reportedly impacted the ongoing construction of the Adiyan Phase II project. To ensure safe and effective execution of the intake construction works, the Adiyan I Water Treatment Plant will be shut down temporarily until repairs are completed,” the statement said.
The corporation assured customers that efforts are being intensified to complete the repairs as quickly as possible and that water supply restoration is expected soon.
