LOXEA Nigeria, a subsidiary of CFAO Mobility, has launched electric vehicles (EVs) in Nigeria, marking a major step in the country’s transition to sustainable mobility. In partnership with Build Your Dreams (BYD), a global leader in electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, LOXEA aims to position itself at the forefront of Africa’s EV revolution.
The company announced that it will offer a full range of 100% electric vehicles from BYD, accompanied by comprehensive support services, including charging station installation, maintenance, repairs, and spare parts. To facilitate the transition to EVs, LOXEA is set to unveil its first public charging station at its new showroom in Victoria Island, Lagos. Additionally, customers will have access to home charging solutions, allowing them to conveniently charge their vehicles.
LOXEA’s Managing Director, Mehdi Slimani, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, emphasizing the company’s commitment to making electric mobility accessible in Nigeria. “We are proud to distribute these electric vehicles and provide all the associated services. Our showroom in Victoria Island will serve as a space dedicated to the discovery of BYD vehicles, blending modernity, comfort, and economic efficiency. For CFAO Mobility in Nigeria, contributing to the country’s energy transition is a key priority, and we are here to support customers who wish to embrace electric vehicles,” he said.
BYD has cemented its position as a dominant force in the global EV market, recently achieving a milestone in November 2024 by producing its 10 millionth new energy vehicle. In 2024 alone, the company sold 4.27 million EVs, making it the world’s top seller for three consecutive years. Its innovative approach to electric mobility has earned it a strong reputation, and its entry into Nigeria signals the growing demand for cleaner transportation solutions across the continent.
CFAO Mobility’s CEO, Marc Hirschfeld, highlighted the broader significance of this launch, noting that the shift toward electric mobility in Africa requires a well-developed ecosystem. “BYD is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of electric vehicles, and its innovation aligns perfectly with the growing demand for sustainable mobility in Africa. However, beyond individual and corporate adoption, an entire ecosystem must be developed. This includes investments in infrastructure, urban public transport systems, and active engagement from government stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition,” he explained.
The introduction of EVs by LOXEA comes at a crucial time for Nigeria, where rising fuel costs, environmental concerns, and the need for energy-efficient transportation solutions are driving interest in alternative mobility options. While EV adoption in Nigeria remains in its early stages, industry experts believe that with the right infrastructure and policy support, electric vehicles could become a viable solution for reducing carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency.
As the Nigerian government continues to explore policies to promote cleaner energy, LOXEA’s initiative signals growing private sector involvement in the push for sustainable mobility. If successful, this could encourage further investments in electric vehicle technology, ultimately transforming Nigeria’s transportation landscape.
