Global cryptocurrency platform Luno has partnered with AltSchool Africa, a leading digital learning provider, to launch a fully funded crypto education program for 15,000 Nigerians, marking one of the largest coordinated initiatives of its kind on the continent.
The program, titled “Demystifying Crypto for Africans,” is designed to bridge the knowledge gap around digital assets, promote safer participation in the crypto ecosystem, and empower learners with practical skills they can apply in savings, remittances, global trading, and digital entrepreneurship.
According to organizers, about one in three Nigerians already engage with digital assets, but many lack structured, formal education on how to use them safely and effectively. The initiative seeks to address this by offering a beginner-friendly curriculum tailored to real-world applications.
“This initiative is a crucial intervention in Africa’s digital ecosystem,” said Ayotunde Alabi, CEO of Luno Nigeria.
“As crypto adoption accelerates, formal literacy must grow alongside it so individuals can participate confidently, securely, and sustainably, turning what is often seen as risk into real economic opportunity.”
Adewale Yusuf, co-founder and CEO of AltSchool Africa, echoed the importance of practical education in digital finance, saying the partnership equips learners with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the digital economy and unlock opportunities that go beyond speculation.
Structured Learning for Practical Impact
The course will begin in March 2026 and run throughout the year, delivered in three cohorts of 5,000 learners each. Applicants will be able to enrol through the AltSchool Africa portal starting in January 2026, with successful applicants notified within about one week.
Designed to be completed in three to four weeks, the curriculum covers five core modules, blending theory with hands-on experience. Participants will engage with essential digital finance tools such as crypto wallets, exchanges, stablecoins, and blockchain research platforms like CoinGecko and Etherscan, skills that are increasingly relevant for MSMEs, freelancers, and digital entrepreneurs seeking alternative financial strategies.
Learners who complete the course and final assessments will receive a certificate of completion from AltSchool Africa, and will retain access to course materials for up to one year.
Why This Matters for MSMEs and Young Entrepreneurs
As Nigeria’s digital economy grows, education around cryptocurrency offers more than technical knowledge; it expands financial inclusion and provides alternative avenues for business financing, cross-border payments, and digital innovation. MSMEs and startups can leverage crypto tools for borderless transactions, inflation-protected savings, and access to global markets if guided by a solid understanding of risks and best practices.
The initiative also aims to reduce misinformation and guard against fraud by grounding learners in safe and informed participation, a critical aspect as digital assets continue to gain traction across Africa’s youth-driven economies.
