Manufacturers Association of Nigeria Calls for Reversal of Ban on Sachets Drinks
Share

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has urged the reversal of the ban on spirit drinks in sachets and Pet bottles less than 200ml, advocating for regulations instead. MAN emphasized the need for full legislative hearings by the appropriate House Committee and the engagement of relevant stakeholders before implementing any decision.

In a statement by MAN’s director-general, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, the association proposed access control measures such as licensed liquor stores, age verification for purchasers, and stricter enforcement by law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies like NAFDAC and FCCPC. MAN highlighted concerns about the potential adverse effects of the ban on local investors and the Nigerian economy, stressing the need for evidence-based policymaking and support from the government in implementing tighter regulations instead of a ban.
