Mastercard and data.org Launch AI2AI Challenge to Promote Inclusive Economic Growth
Share

The Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth and data.org have introduced the Artificial Intelligence to Accelerate Inclusion Challenge (AI2AI Challenge), aiming to harness AI solutions to enhance economic empowerment and inclusivity globally.

 Objectives and Focus Areas

With the rapid progress in artificial intelligence, there’s a critical need to ensure that AI fosters inclusive economic growth and addresses inequalities. The AI2AI Challenge focuses on several key considerations:

  1. Serving the Public Good: Solutions should aim to uplift lives and drive economic growth in underserved communities, ensuring they do not exacerbate the digital divide.
  2. Community-Driven AI: Proposals should involve communities as active drivers in the design and application of inclusive AI.
  3. Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) Principles: The challenge seeks diverse proposals from communities often excluded from the AI for social impact conversation.
  4. Democratizing AI Services: The aim is to make AI accessible to historically underserved populations, supported by resources like award money, technical assistance, and access to enabling environments.
  5. Addressing Infrastructural Challenges: Solutions should offer new approaches or enhance existing technologies to overcome challenges like limited access to large datasets and certain technologies.

 Key Considerations

– Transformative Impact: Ensure AI solutions serve the public good, transforming society and promoting economic growth in underserved communities.

– Community Engagement: Position communities as active participants in the AI design and application process.

– Inclusive Participation: Encourage diverse proposals from communities frequently excluded from AI discussions.

– Resource Mobilization: Provide resources to support the advancement of AI solutions for underserved populations.

– Innovative Approaches: Address infrastructural challenges with new approaches or enhancements to existing technologies.

 How to Apply

To participate in the AI2AI Challenge:

  1. Application Process: Click the link provided by the organizers to apply.
  2. Deadline: Submit your application by Thursday, July 18, 2024.

This challenge aims to foster AI applications that are climate-aware, gender-equitable, racially sensitive, and locally informed, emphasizing responsible AI principles and practices. By addressing systemic inequities and digital disparities, the AI2AI Challenge seeks to democratize AI and create inclusive growth for all.
