MoMo Rwanda and Mastercard Launch Virtual Card for Secure Global Online Payments

Mobile Money Rwanda Limited (MoMo Rwanda), in collaboration with Mastercard, has introduced the Virtual Card by MoMo, a groundbreaking payment solution enabling customers to safely and securely make global e-commerce payments. This virtual card empowers Rwandans to shop and transact with global outlets that accept Mastercard, advancing Rwanda’s digital economy and financial inclusion goals.

Key Highlights

  1. Global Payment Access
    • MoMo customers can now transact globally with Mastercard’s vast merchant network.
    • The card facilitates cross-border transactions, supporting e-commerce and digital trade.
  2. Strategic Partnership
    • The product is part of the MTN Group’s broader collaboration with Mastercard, aiming to enhance digital payments across 13 African countries.
    • I&M Bank Rwanda is providing technical support, ensuring smooth operation and alignment with Rwanda’s cashless economy agenda.
  3. Customer Benefits
    • Customers can securely shop online by linking the virtual card to their MTN MoMo account.
    • Enhanced transaction security includes a PIN verification system before confirming purchases.
    • Accessible on all mobile devices, ensuring inclusivity and ease of use.

How to Get the Virtual Card by MoMo

  1. Dial *182*2*6#.
  2. Enter your MoMo PIN to confirm.
  3. Select “Create card”.
  4. Accept the terms and conditions.
  5. Receive an SMS notification confirming the card creation.

To view card details:

  • Dial *182*2*6#, then select option 4 (view card details).

The Virtual Card by MoMo supports Rwanda’s goal of becoming a cashless economy by promoting digital payment solutions like MoMoPay. The partnership demonstrates a commitment to leveraging innovative financial tools to empower individuals and businesses, driving digital transformation and economic growth.
