The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) has partnered with the Motor Mechs and Technicians Association of Nigeria (MOMTAN) to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proposed tax reform bill. The bill, aimed at overhauling Nigeria’s tax system, has been submitted to the National Assembly for deliberation.
As part of efforts to educate stakeholders, the Chairman of the Presidential Policy on Taxation, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, led a town hall meeting at SMEDAN headquarters in Abuja. Themed “Understanding the Tax Reform Bills: The Benefits and How to Maximize the New Tax System,” the event highlighted the potential benefits of the reforms for small businesses.
MOMTAN’s National President, Alhaji Morufu Adebayo Arowolo, pledged his association’s support, noting that the tax reforms could ease financial burdens on citizens, promote fair wealth distribution, enhance transparency, boost productivity, and increase revenue for infrastructure development. He assured that MOMTAN members, as law-abiding citizens, would fulfill their civic responsibilities.
SMEDAN’s Director-General, Mr. Charles Odii, also emphasized the positive impact of the reforms on MSMEs and urged business owners to embrace the new system.
The event attracted various stakeholders, including market traders, representatives from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), artists, farmers, and hospitality industry players.
