MultiChoice has announced a price increase for its DStv and GOtv packages, set to take effect from March 1, 2025. The company informed customers of the adjustment in a statement on Monday, citing rising operational costs due to Nigeria’s economic conditions.
“This is to enable us to continue offering our customers world-class homegrown and international content, delivered through the best technology,” the statement read.
The review comes nearly a year after MultiChoice last increased its subscription rates. Under the new pricing structure, DStv Compact subscribers will now pay N19,000, up from N15,700, while Compact Plus will increase to N30,000. The Premium bouquet, the company’s highest-tier package, will rise to N44,500.
GOtv subscribers will also be affected, with the basic package increasing from N3,600 to N3,900. GOtv Plus will now cost N5,800, up from N4,850, while the Max package will rise to N8,500. The Supa and Supa Plus plans will see their prices climb to N11,400 and N16,800, respectively.
MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, has attributed the increase to Nigeria’s tough economic environment, pointing to currency depreciation and high inflation. The naira has lost significant value in recent months, raising the company’s operating expenses and forcing adjustments to pricing.
The price hike is expected to add to the financial strain on consumers, many of whom are already grappling with rising costs of living. While MultiChoice insists that the increase is necessary to maintain its service quality, the move is likely to spark fresh debates over affordability, especially as the pay-TV market faces growing competition from streaming platforms.
MultiChoice has not announced any new features or content additions alongside the price increase, leaving many subscribers questioning whether they will receive added value for the higher rates. Some customers have taken to social media to express frustration, arguing that frequent price hikes are making the service less accessible.
Despite the backlash, MultiChoice has historically maintained its position as a dominant player in the Nigerian pay-TV industry, with DStv and GOtv being the preferred options for millions of households. Whether this latest price adjustment will affect its customer base remains to be seen.
