At a significant event held at the NASENI-Portland CNG Conversion Centre in Utako, Abuja, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), presided over the launch of the Presidential CNG Initiative’s (Pi-CNG) Conversion Incentive Program and the MY-CNG App. The event, which took place on August 9, 2024, was attended by key figures including the Honourable Minister of State for Gas, Petroleum Resources, Hon. Ekperipe Ekpo, and the Director-General of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Dr. Muhammed Bulama.

The Pi-CNG initiative, part of NASENI’s broader vision to drive technological advancements in Nigeria, aims to promote the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a cleaner, more affordable fuel option. The Conversion Incentive Program specifically targets the rideshare sector, offering a 50% discount to drivers who sign up through the newly launched MY-CNG App.

In his address, Halilu emphasized the importance of the initiative in Nigeria’s gas revolution and its alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He noted that CNG has the potential to reduce transportation costs by up to 70% and deliver 40% savings for car owners, providing a practical solution to current economic challenges.

The MY-CNG App is designed to facilitate the conversion process and manage incentives efficiently. Halilu praised the collaboration with partners such as Portland and Dana Motors, stating that these joint efforts are crucial for transforming Nigeria’s energy and transportation sectors.

The launch of these initiatives underscores NASENI’s role in fostering innovation and supporting national development goals, including energy efficiency, climate action, and economic sustainability. NASENI remains committed to leveraging technology to drive progress and improve the quality of life for Nigerians.
