NCC Grants Partial Approval for MTN to Disconnect Globacom Over Interconnect Charges
Share

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has authorized a partial disconnection of services from Globacom by MTN Nigeria Communications Plc due to outstanding interconnect charges, as revealed by Dr. Reuben Muoka, the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs in Abuja.

This disclosure follows the notification sent to Globacom by MTN, providing the opportunity for the company to respond and present its case regarding the pending interconnect charges.

Dr. Muoka emphasized that upon careful examination of the application and the circumstances surrounding the unpaid fees, the NCC concluded that Globacom lacked adequate and justifiable reasons for non-payment of the interconnect charges.

The partial approval for the disconnection aligns with Section 100 of the NCC Act, 2003, and Paragraph 9 of the 2012 guidelines on the procedure for approving Telecommunications Operators’ disconnections.

Effective after a 10-day period from the notice’s issuance date, Globacom subscribers will lose the ability to place calls to MTN numbers, while retaining the capability to receive incoming calls from the MTN network. However, inbound calls to the Globacom network will remain unaffected.

The NCC clarified that this partial disconnection remains in place until further determination by the commission.
