In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced the training of 41,307 unskilled and unemployed Nigerians nationwide under the second phase of the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative (RHEI 2).
The official flag-off took place at Ibadan North Local Government Area, Oyo State, where the NDE State Coordinator, Mr. Oke Paul Adegboye, represented the Director-General of NDE, Silas Ali Agara.
Adegboye explained that the training will cover over 30 skill areas, including vocational, entrepreneurial, agricultural, ICT, and public works programmes. He stressed that the initiative is a strategic step toward addressing the challenge of mass unemployment in the country.
According to him, the first phase of the programme, launched nationwide on December 6, 2024, trained 32,692 Nigerians in demand-driven skills across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Building on that experience, the directorate has now digitised its processes through a robust online registration portal equipped with scalable backends and geofenced capabilities.
“This development has made NDE’s processes more transparent, fair, and equitable, while also providing the agency with a credible database,” the DG noted.
The NDE further disclosed that trainees were drawn from all states of the federation, including the FCT, with at least four participants selected from each of Nigeria’s 8,809 electoral wards, ensuring wide representation and inclusiveness.
The Renewed Hope Employment Initiative, the agency added, is designed not only to provide skills but also to promote entrepreneurship and job creation across communities.
