Netzence Sustainability Limited has launched an initiative to onboard facilities in Nigeria for carbon incentives, aiming to reduce the country’s carbon footprint and lay the foundation for effective carbon registries.
The initiative, announced by the company’s CEO, Dr. Sadiq Sani, seeks to promote sustainability in Nigeria, a rapidly growing economy facing the dual challenge of industrial expansion and environmental responsibility. “In a world increasingly aware of the consequences of climate change, Nigeria finds itself at a crossroads where economic growth and environmental sustainability must coexist,” the statement said.
Carbon incentives—such as credits, tax breaks, and grants—encourage businesses to adopt sustainable practices and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By establishing carbon registries, Netzence plans to track emissions across various sectors, providing valuable data to identify high-emission areas and target interventions.
Dr. Sadiq Sani emphasized that these registries will help Nigeria make informed decisions about sustainability efforts, including investing in key sectors like power, agriculture, and job creation. The move aims to build public awareness, enhance sectoral sustainability, and contribute to Nigeria’s broader climate commitments.
