Next Narrative Africa, a leading multimedia entertainment production company, and HEVA Fund, a creative industries-focused investment group, have launched the Next Narrative Africa Fund during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The fund will raise $30 million in equity financing and $10 million in grants to support high-impact audio-visual content made in Africa over the next four years.
Aimed at transforming Africa’s TV, film, and new media sectors, the fund seeks to fuel innovation, economic growth, and job creation in these industries. African filmmakers, despite the rich cultural narratives of the continent, have historically faced barriers such as limited financing and resources, restricting their participation in the global film economy. The Next Narrative Africa Fund aims to change this by attracting new investors and partners to empower audio-visual creatives on the continent and in the diaspora.
The fund’s goal is not just to entertain but also to address socially relevant themes and reshape the often stereotypical portrayal of Africa in global media. According to the fund’s organizers, commercially viable content will be developed, offering strong returns for investors while significantly enhancing Africa’s creative industries.
The official announcement of the fund will take place at “The Bridge,” an event at New York’s iconic Apollo Theater, showcasing African talent and creativity. With performances by Afrobeats stars Adekunle Gold and Patoranking, the event will feature key figures like Nigerian Minister for Art, Culture, and Creative Economy Hannatu Musawa and U.S. African Development Foundation President Travis Adkins. The gathering will focus on fostering African creativity and innovation on the world stage.
This initiative is set to not only revolutionize African storytelling but also create a lasting global impact by amplifying authentic African voices through powerful and commercially successful media projects.
