The Niger State Contributory Health Agency (NiCare) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Niger Food Security Systems and Logistics Company Limited (Niger Foods) to enroll 350,000 farmers into the State’s health insurance scheme.
The partnership aims to provide health insurance coverage for farmers in the state, reducing their out-of-pocket expenses for medical care. Executive Secretary of NiCare, Sulayman Abu-bakr, highlighted the initiative’s visionary approach to improving the lives of farmers and communities in alignment with the state governor’s strategic agenda.
Abu-bakr emphasized the significance of agriculture in Niger State, portraying it not just as an occupation but as a way of life ingrained in the state’s heritage and prosperity. The partnership with Niger Foods is part of NiCare’s efforts to collaborate with various agencies to drive the state’s developmental agenda, particularly focusing on the agricultural sector under the leadership of Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago.
During an advocacy visit to Niger Foods, Executive Director Onyaole Patience Koku expressed the company’s commitment to supporting farmers, particularly in mental health and well-being. She echoed the governor’s pledge to elevate farmers and enhance food production, revenue generation, and employment opportunities in Niger State.
Koku emphasized the potential for collaboration between NiCare and Niger Foods to provide farmers with access to quality healthcare services, fostering a sense of belonging and well-being among those in the informal sector. The coalition aims to make a positive impact on the lives of farmers and contribute to the state’s agricultural development agenda.
