Nigerdock, a Nigerian maritime and logistics company, has forged a collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) aimed at promoting green energy adoption and attracting sustainable foreign investments into Nigeria.

Maher Jarmakani, CEO of Nigerdock, revealed that a UNIDO delegation consisting of representatives from 23 companies visited Nigerdock’s office in Lagos to explore potential partnerships focusing on renewable energy, green technologies, and agribusiness investments.

The company, operating an integrated port and free zone in Lagos, offers terminal operations, marine services, logistics, and free zone solutions.

Earlier this year, Nigerdock completed the initial phase of its transition to renewable energy by installing solar solutions at Snake Island Integrated Free Zone, collaborating with Daystar Power, a solar power company, for this initiative.

Jarmakani highlighted that this multilateral collaboration facilitated by UNIDO, in association with the Nigerian Investment Promotion Council, aims to attract European enterprises to domicile investments in Nigeria.

He emphasized their commitment to Nigeria’s economic development through investments in maritime infrastructure, sustainable projects, and clean energy initiatives, stressing that their free zone provides an environmentally sustainable and cost-effective hub for global businesses targeting Africa’s fastest-growing markets.

The Private Sector Mission (PSM) comprises companies specializing in sustainable packaging, circular economy, and waste management. This mission follows German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s visit, indicating increasing cooperation and investment interest between Nigeria and Germany.

Scholz expressed Germany’s interest in investing across various sectors, citing Nigeria as its second-largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa. UNIDO’s ITPO Germany, an integral part of this initiative, focuses on technology transfer and private sector-led economic development.

Michael Schmidt from UNIDO ITPO Germany highlighted their dedication to eco-industrial park development, finding synergies between UNIDO’s objectives and Nigerdock’s infrastructure goals, indicating the potential for valuable cross-collaboration.

The partnership signifies a step forward in attracting sustainable investments and fostering green technology adoption in Nigeria, aligning with the nation’s industrialization and economic growth objectives.
