Nigeria has expressed confidence that its partnership with China will continue to mature and deliver lasting outcomes as both countries enter a new phase of cooperation, advancing their shared vision of a China–Nigeria community with a shared future.
Reflecting on developments in 2025, Nigeria said bilateral relations recorded steady progress following the elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership agreed during a state visit to China in September 2024. Engagements throughout the year spanned political, economic and technical levels, reinforcing a relationship built on mutual respect, development cooperation and shared interests.
Cooperation between both countries expanded across priority areas such as infrastructure development, trade and investment, industrial capacity building, technology exchange and people-to-people relations. These engagements helped strengthen institutional linkages and provided a more structured framework for delivering mutually beneficial outcomes, particularly in sectors critical to economic growth and private sector participation.
Nigeria reiterated that the relationship remains guided by its long-standing foreign policy principles, including respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as adherence to established international norms. The country also reaffirmed its continued recognition of the One-China principle as the basis of its diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China.
Looking ahead to 2026, Nigeria said it remains committed to consolidating and deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with China in practical, results-driven ways. Emphasis will continue to be placed on cooperation that supports Nigeria’s development priorities, including economic diversification, infrastructure delivery, human capital development, technology transfer and long-term sustainability, with positive implications for local industries and small businesses.
