Nigeria Introduces Amnesty for Foreigners with Expired Visas to Boost Compliance
Share

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched a temporary amnesty initiative for foreigners whose immigration status has expired, allowing them to regularise their stay without facing penalties. The move is part of efforts to improve compliance with the country’s new visa regime and strengthen its migration management system.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by Akinsola Akinlabi, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Expired Visa Initiative commenced on 1 May and will run until 30 September 2025.

The amnesty covers a broad range of immigration violations, including overstayed Visa on Arrival (VoA), expired Single or Multiple-Entry Visas, and Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (CERPAC) that lapsed more than 30 days ago.

“This window provides affected individuals with an opportunity to update their records and regularize their stay without penalty,” Akinlabi stated. He urged all eligible foreigners to take advantage of the initiative by visiting (https://amnesty.immigration.gov.ng) before the deadline.

To ensure a smooth process, the NIS has set up a dedicated support team to assist applicants during the amnesty period. Individuals can also contact the service via email at [email protected] for help with their applications.

The NIS reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a transparent and secure immigration system, ensuring lawful migration and contributing to national security.

Further information on the amnesty and visa procedures is available on the official website of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
