The Federal Government and Lagos State have endorsed the maiden edition of GITEX NIGERIA, a four-day technology event designed to fast-track digital transformation and innovation across the country.
The event, scheduled for September 1 to 4, 2025, will take place in both Abuja and Lagos under the patronage of the presidency, with backing from the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
Abuja will host the opening on September 1 with the Government Leadership and AI Summit, a gathering of global and local stakeholders to discuss artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and innovation policies. From September 3 to 4, Lagos will stage the Tech Expo and Future Economy Conference at the Eko Hotel Convention Centre, alongside a Startup Festival at the Landmark Centre, an event billed as West Africa’s largest technology gathering.
Organisers explained that the focus of the summit is to ensure that Nigeria and Africa evolve from being passive consumers of technology to producers of talent, solutions, and infrastructure that can compete globally. The event will also serve as a platform to showcase the depth of innovation emerging from Nigeria’s tech ecosystem.
GITEX NIGERIA is being organised by KAOUN International, the event management arm of Dubai World Trade Centre, in strategic partnership with NITDA.
Officials from Lagos State highlighted the city’s role as a hub for innovation and digital progress, stressing that hosting part of the event will further position Lagos at the heart of Africa’s digital future. NITDA also emphasized that the forum will act as a catalyst for building inclusive and scalable AI infrastructure that promotes sovereignty, equity, and global competitiveness for Nigeria and Africa.
Described as more than a conference, the event is expected to serve as a cornerstone for Africa’s digital renaissance, bringing together leaders, investors, innovators, and startups to shape the continent’s role in the global digital economy.
