The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UNIDACO Limited, London, for an initial €100 million investment aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s energy sector and advancing its clean energy transition.
The agreement, sealed at the House of Lords in London during the Renewed Hope Global Dialogue (UK Edition), is a major step in promoting international collaboration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The event brought together dignitaries, investors, and industry leaders from Nigeria and across the world to discuss strategies for sustainable energy and economic growth.
In a statement issued in Abuja, ECN’s Director-General, Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha, described the partnership as a “major milestone in advancing Nigeria’s clean energy transition.” He said the collaboration will expand Nigeria’s renewable energy capacity, promote access to sustainable power, and drive innovation within the energy ecosystem.
“This partnership underscores our commitment to expanding renewable energy access, driving innovation, and strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to harness clean technologies,” Dr. Mustapha stated. “It also aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly on sustainable energy solutions as a catalyst for economic growth and development.”
Dr. Mustapha noted that the €100 million investment marks a strong start to what is expected to be a long-term collaboration with UNIDACO Limited. He added that the partnership demonstrates Nigeria’s readiness to work with credible global partners to deliver clean, reliable, and affordable energy solutions to homes and businesses.
He further affirmed that the initiative would accelerate the nation’s energy transformation while contributing to climate resilience and green job creation. “The ECN remains committed to building an inclusive, energy-secure, and prosperous nation powered by innovation and international cooperation,” he said.
The partnership is expected to unlock new opportunities for renewable energy deployment across Nigeria, particularly in underserved communities, while positioning the country as a leading player in Africa’s sustainable energy transition.
