Nigeria Signs MoU to Integrate Digital Identity into National Health System
Share

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has taken another significant step toward promoting digital inclusion and enhancing institutional collaboration in Nigeria by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). The agreement marks a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to integrate digital identity systems into national health infrastructure, ensuring that citizens have access to more efficient and secure public services.

Through this partnership, NIMC and NHIA aim to create a unified framework that links citizens’ national identity data with health insurance records. This integration is expected to streamline verification processes, enhance transparency, and improve the overall management of health services across the country. By leveraging digital identity, both agencies seek to eliminate redundancies, reduce fraud, and expand access to healthcare, particularly for underserved populations.

The collaboration reflects NIMC’s broader commitment to promoting a digitally inclusive Nigeria where technology serves as a bridge to equitable development. It also aligns with the Federal Government’s digital transformation agenda, which prioritizes data-driven governance, interoperability among agencies, and citizen-centered service delivery. The signing of the MoU sets the stage for deeper inter-agency cooperation that will drive innovation and improve efficiency in Nigeria’s public sector.
