In a bold step to revamp Nigeria’s livestock industry, the Federal Government has launched Hack4Livestock, a national tech-driven hackathon offering a prize pool of ₦10 million to innovators solving key issues in the sector.

Organised by the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR) under NITDA, and backed by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, AI Collective Nigeria, Luminate, and the Ford Foundation, the initiative seeks practical, scalable solutions to age-old problems plaguing the livestock sector.

Challenges such as disease outbreaks, farmer-herder conflicts, outdated systems, and limited market access continue to plague the sector, which contributes over 5% to Nigeria’s GDP.

Hack4Livestock calls on a wide range of professionals—including developers, engineers, agricultural experts, veterinarians, farmers, entrepreneurs, data analysts, and policy influencers—to collaborate and innovate.

Prize Breakdown

  • 1st Place – ₦5,000,000
  • 2nd Place – ₦3,000,000
  • 3rd Place – ₦2,000,000

Winning teams will also receive post-hackathon mentorship and incubation support to scale their solutions beyond the event.

Key Dates

  • Application Deadline: Sunday, 12th May 2025
  • Selection Notification: Thursday, 15th May 2025
  • Hackathon Dates: 21st–24th May 2025
  • Location: Abuja

Applicants can apply via the official Hack4Livestock website, and only committed, multidisciplinary teams with viable, impactful ideas will be shortlisted.

This initiative aims to transform how millions farm, trade, and live, by turning technology into a powerful tool for rural prosperity and national development.
