In a bold step to revamp Nigeria’s livestock industry, the Federal Government has launched Hack4Livestock, a national tech-driven hackathon offering a prize pool of ₦10 million to innovators solving key issues in the sector.
Organised by the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR) under NITDA, and backed by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, AI Collective Nigeria, Luminate, and the Ford Foundation, the initiative seeks practical, scalable solutions to age-old problems plaguing the livestock sector.
Challenges such as disease outbreaks, farmer-herder conflicts, outdated systems, and limited market access continue to plague the sector, which contributes over 5% to Nigeria’s GDP.
Hack4Livestock calls on a wide range of professionals—including developers, engineers, agricultural experts, veterinarians, farmers, entrepreneurs, data analysts, and policy influencers—to collaborate and innovate.
