The Nigerian Government has announced a strategic partnership with Google aimed at positioning Nigeria as a global technology hub.
This initiative follows a meeting in Paris between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, where they discussed advancing Nigeria’s role in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital innovation.
Kashifu Inuwa, Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), highlighted the significance of this collaboration during a recent interview with Arise TV.
He emphasized that the partnership will lead to the development of a comprehensive roadmap for Nigeria’s digital transformation, focusing on key areas such as AI expansion, digital skills development, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Inuwa noted that integrating AI into various sectors is expected to enhance efficiency and productivity, thereby boosting the nation’s economy.
He also mentioned that the collaboration includes initiatives to train millions of Nigerians in digital skills, ensuring a workforce ready to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving tech landscape.
This partnership builds upon previous collaborations between NITDA and Google, such as the Google Hustle Academy Bootcamp, which provided free online training for SMEs to improve business operations and revenue generation.
These efforts align with NITDA’s mission to create self-sustaining ecosystems that expedite the development of an indigenous IT industry, transforming Nigeria into a knowledge-based society.
The Federal Government’s commitment to digital transformation, supported by global tech leaders like Google, underscores Nigeria’s potential to emerge as a leading technology hub on the international stage.
