The Federal Government has announced a collaboration with the Nigerian Youth Economic Engagement and De-Radicalization Programme (NIYEEDEP) to address youth unemployment, poverty, and insecurity. This initiative targets creating 12 million jobs for youth farmers and food entrepreneurs across the nation.

Empowering Youth through Innovation

During a press briefing in Abuja, Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, outlined the program’s focus on empowering young Nigerians through specialized schemes, including:

  1. Youth Farmers’ Cooperative – Supporting agriculture-based ventures.
  2. Tech4Jobs – Harnessing technology for employment opportunities.
  3. Waste2Wealth – Turning waste management into profitable enterprises.
  4. Arts4Money – Monetizing talents in creative industries.
  5. Skills2Job – Upskilling youth to meet labor market demands.

Integrated Approach to Job Creation

The initiative aims to promote job creation and wealth generation by fostering agri-food entrepreneurship, integrating value-chain investments, and leveraging emerging opportunities in technology, entertainment, and renewable energy.

NIYEEDEP Coordinator Kennedy Iyere highlighted the transformative potential of the program, praising Minister Olawande’s commitment to driving economic growth and community development.

Key Projections

  • 12 million jobs over the program’s lifespan.
  • 6 million jobs directly linked to value-added sectors like technology, agriculture, and entertainment.
  • Socioeconomic transformation through skills development and innovative enterprises.
