The Federal Government has distributed relief materials, cash grants, and small business equipment to women and vulnerable groups in Benue State, as part of efforts to support communities affected by years of insecurity and displacement.
The intervention was delivered in Makurdi by the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Items distributed included 400 bags of rice, 20 bales of fabrics and clothing, pepper-grinding machines, tailoring equipment, and ₦20 million in cash grants to women farmers. Each of the 20 beneficiaries under the farming scheme received ₦1 million, with half disbursed immediately and the balance scheduled for later.
Small-scale women entrepreneurs also benefited from the equipment support, aimed at boosting micro-business activities such as food processing and tailoring. Officials said the initiative provides both immediate relief for displaced families and long-term empowerment opportunities for women-led households.
Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, welcomed the intervention and noted that the state government is also prioritising programmes for internally displaced persons and creating more opportunities for women in governance and enterprise.
According to the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, the distribution aligns with ongoing social investment and women’s empowerment schemes nationwide, designed to strengthen food security, reduce poverty, and support micro and small-scale enterprises.
