Nigeria's 3MTT Program Takes Off: 50 Laptops to be Distributed Monthly
Share

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that it will distribute 50 laptops monthly to fellows of its 3 Million Technical Training (3MTT) program. This initiative was revealed by Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, as he announced the commencement of the learning phase for the 270,000 fellows selected for the second cohort of the program.

The distribution of laptops will take place during the program’s monthly knowledge showcases, where fellows present what they have learned and how they are applying their new skills. Additionally, five MTN routers will be given out each month as part of the program’s learning incentives.

Although the second cohort of the program began in March, the learning phase officially started in mid-May. Dr. Tijani expressed gratitude for the fellows’ patience as the team prepared for the start of the sessions. He emphasized that the program offers many opportunities and encouraged future cohorts to stay engaged.

The Minister also highlighted the success of the first cohort, noting that many fellows have been placed in internships across the country. These fellows are now participating in hackathons to apply their skills in practical settings and demonstrate their expertise.

The 3MTT program is part of the Renewed Hope agenda, which aims to build Nigeria’s technical talent pool to support the digital economy and position the country as a net exporter of talent. The program initially began with 30,000 participants and has now expanded to include 270,000 fellows in its second cohort, reaching 10% of its 3 million target.

The program’s framework was developed in collaboration with government agencies, training providers, educational institutions, development agencies, and the private sector. It offers training in a wide range of skills, including Digital Marketing, Project Management Software, Cloud Platforms Navigation, Data Analysis and Visualisation, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), CRM Management, Accounting Software, Graphics Design, and UX/UI Design.
