Nigeria’s National Grid Collapses Again, Power Generation Drops to 1.5MW
Share

Nigeria has been plunged into another nationwide blackout following the collapse of the national electricity grid on Wednesday.

Data showed that power generation crashed from 2,917.83 megawatts (MW) to just 1.5MW between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., cutting supply across the country.

Shortly after the incident, the Nigeria National Grid, an X (formerly Twitter) handle that provides real-time updates on power distribution, confirmed the collapse, saying:

“System restoration is in progress.”

As of press time, electricity distribution companies (DisCos) had not provided official updates on the cause or expected timeline for restoration.

This marks yet another disruption in Nigeria’s fragile power sector, which has struggled with repeated system collapses due to aging infrastructure, inadequate generation capacity, gas supply issues, and grid instability.

More details to follow…
