The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the MTN Foundation have reinforced their commitment to expanding digital literacy initiatives in Nigeria. During a courtesy visit to NITDA’s headquarters, MTN Foundation’s Executive Director, Odunayo Sanya, engaged with NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, to explore collaboration opportunities in equipping Nigerians with essential digital skills.
Sanya highlighted the Foundation’s Digital Skills for Digital Jobs programme, a multinational initiative designed to align with Nigeria’s development priorities and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. The programme aims to provide individuals with the competencies needed to thrive in a technology-driven economy.
In response, Inuwa reiterated NITDA’s dedication to fostering digital inclusion, noting that the initiative aligns with the National Digital Literacy Framework. He also outlined NITDA’s existing collaborations with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Cisco, and Coursera, under the Digital Literacy for All (DL4All) initiative. This broad-based approach, he explained, is designed to ensure that digital education reaches various segments of society, from students and job seekers to professionals looking to enhance their skills.
The discussions underscored the growing need for strategic partnerships in advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda. By leveraging the expertise and resources of both public and private sector players, the initiative is expected to bridge the digital divide and empower Nigerians with critical skills to participate in the evolving global economy.
