Nigeria’s digital economy is set for a boost as the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) partners with fintech leaders Flutterwave and Alami. The three organizations recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to drive financial technology innovation, expand digital literacy, enhance infrastructure, and promote open-source technology.
The agreement, signed by NITDA’s Director-General alongside Flutterwave CEO Olugbenga Agboola and Alami CEO Olu White, lays out a roadmap for collaboration to advance Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
According to NITDA, the partnership will focus on key areas, including:
– Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships: Efforts will be directed at developing digital payment infrastructure and increasing technology financing to support Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
– Digital Nigeria Week 2025: The annual event will highlight payment innovations, feature workshops and panel discussions, and create opportunities for SMEs, startups, and other stakeholders in the tech ecosystem.
– Support for NITDA’s Strategic Programs: This includes alignment with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS), NITDA’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP 2.0), and initiatives focused on entrepreneurship, cybersecurity, and digital skills development.
NITDA described the partnership as a major step toward achieving Nigeria’s digital transformation goals, aligning with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. By leveraging the expertise of Flutterwave and Alami, the collaboration aims to create an enabling environment for innovation and inclusive digital growth, particularly benefiting SMEs.
As part of its broader digital transformation efforts, NITDA has also partnered with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to train 30 million Nigerians in digital skills. This initiative, facilitated by the Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, aligns with NITDA’s Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL) program and SRAP 2.0 strategy.
NITDA sees digital literacy as key to reforming the economy and fostering long-term inclusive growth by building a strong pipeline of tech talent. The agency believes that through strategic partnerships, Nigeria can accelerate its digital evolution, equipping businesses and individuals with the skills needed to thrive in a technology-driven world.
