NLNG has officially launched its Nigerian Content Human Capacity Development (NC-HCD) Basic Training Programme in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, aimed at reskilling young graduates and strengthening human capital for the NLNG Train 7 Project.
The initiative, part of a broader national effort to develop local talent, includes 331 young graduates from various academic disciplines, selected from 848 applicants who registered via the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content (NOGIC) Joint Qualification System (JQS) portal. Over the next 12 months, trainees will receive education in key sectors such as ICT, Engineering, Welding and Fabrication, Non-destructive Testing (NDT), Marine Services, and more.
Speaking at the launch event, Engr Joshua Anemeje, NLNG Train 7 Corporate Liaison Manager, emphasized the significant progress of the Train 7 Project, noting that it is 75% complete with over 10,000 workers currently involved at the NLNG Plant Site on Bonny Island. He praised the role of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) in supporting the training program and expressed excitement for the opportunities it will provide to the trainees.
“The program will empower young men and women, helping them build skills and capabilities essential for their careers. As the Train 7 Project nears completion, we are pleased to offer this training, enabling participants to apply their skills in the future,” Anemeje stated.
In his keynote address, Engr Felix Ogbe, Executive Secretary of NCDMB, represented by Dr. Ama Ikuru, Director of Capacity Building and Corporate Services, stressed the importance of the NC-HCD program in fulfilling the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act’s mandate. He emphasized that the initiative is vital for producing a skilled, globally competitive workforce to support Nigeria’s growing oil and gas sector.
Dr. Ikuru highlighted the program’s potential to provide the trainees with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, with the promise of employment opportunities for high performers. He also encouraged young graduates to register on the NCDMB’s NOGIC JQS portal for future training opportunities.
The training is being conducted by the Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN). As part of the broader Train 7 Project, the program will contribute to increasing the NLNG Terminal’s production capacity by 35%, from 22 million metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 30 mtpa.
