The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has announced its goal to increase crude oil production to two million barrels per day by the end of 2024. This follows a rise in daily production from 1.27 million barrels in June to 1.6 million in July, as reported by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.
Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director of NNPC, expressed optimism about reaching this target, emphasizing the company’s dedication to achieving it. Represented by Folorunsho Karim, Managing Director of Pipeline NNPC, Kyari called on security agencies to continue combating oil theft and pipeline vandalism to support the company’s objectives.
“The target is to increase production to two million barrels by the end of the year, and we are fully committed to doing that,” Karim said. “We appreciate the support of the Nigerian Navy in making this possible.”
Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of the Naval Staff, acknowledged the significant security challenges facing Nigeria, including oil theft and pipeline vandalism. He stressed the importance of a collaborative approach to address these issues and promote the ease of doing business.
“We aim to promote ease of doing business by ensuring our operations and patrols do not create problems for operators. Instead, we support them by assuring them of protection,” Ogalla stated.
The Nigerian Navy is working to ensure its operations support legitimate business operators while providing security against criminal activities.
