NRC Adds Extra Train Trips Ahead of Eid Break to Ease Travel Pressure
Share

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has added extra train trips on the Lagos-Ibadan and Warri-Itakpe routes for Thursday, June 5, 2025, to accommodate increased passenger demand during the Eid-al-Kabir holiday.

A statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director of Public Relations, Callistus Unyimadu, confirmed that the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service (LITS) will feature a new mid-day departure from Lagos at 1:55 p.m. and an extra return trip from Ibadan at 11:03 a.m. The existing 4:00 p.m. departure from Ibadan has also been pushed to 4:46 p.m.

In a rare move, the NRC will also run a special Warri-Itakpe train on Thursday, a day typically reserved for maintenance. This one-time adjustment is aimed at facilitating smooth movement for Eid travelers, especially Muslim faithful. Maintenance on the Warri-Itakpe line has been rescheduled to Sunday, June 8, 2025.

The Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS), meanwhile, will maintain its regular schedule but with additional coaches to meet growing demand during the holiday season.

NRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, extended festive greetings to passengers, noting that the Corporation remains focused on offering safe and dependable rail services during high-traffic periods. He emphasized that these adjustments reflect NRC’s continued commitment to supporting national mobility

With the Federal Government declaring Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, as public holidays for Eid-ul-Adha, Thursday, June 5, stands as the last workday before the long break. The NRC’s expanded train schedule is expected to ease congestion for thousands of Nigerians preparing to travel out of major cities for the celebration.
