The Nigerian Society of Petroleum Engineers (NSPE), Port Harcourt Zone, has initiated a partnership with real estate investor My-ACE China to further the sustainability of cleaner energy. This collaboration was announced at the recent annual general meeting (AGM) of NSPE, held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The partnership aims to enhance activities promoting cleaner energy.
Mr. Patrick Ezenaji, a member of NSPE and a known advocate for sustainability and cleaner energy, explained the collaboration. He noted that the sustainable development goal (SDG)-17 emphasizes partnerships. “Interestingly, the Mayor of Housing is very much interested in generating clean energy in the area of housing and real estate. The partnership will harness young minds who are innovative thinkers to collaborate with the Mayor of Housing so that we can solve the housing problem in Africa and the world,” Ezenaji stated.
The partnership focuses on addressing the energy crisis by utilizing renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydro. Ezenaji expressed his enthusiasm for working with the Mayor of Housing on cleaner energy and sustainability initiatives.
Ezenaji, newly appointed as Students Affairs Assistant Co-Chair for the 2024/25 session, also highlighted his commitment to empowering students. He emphasized the importance of educating students about Sustainable Development Goal-7, which focuses on clean energy generation to combat climate change.
Mr. Abiye Pedro was sworn in as the new chairman of NSPE, overseeing Rivers State, Bayelsa State, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, the South-East, and universities in those regions. He succeeded Ngozi Okonkwo, the outgoing chairman.
My-ACE China, also known as the Mayor of Housing, expressed his admiration for NSPE’s focus on cleaner energy during the AGM. He mentioned the lasting impact of Shell’s Residential Area, known for its clean and green environment 60 years after construction. China emphasized the potential for producing cleaner petroleum products and called for Nigerian engineers to lead new discoveries in the energy sector.
China addressed the gap between the elite with technical knowledge and the housing sector’s deliverables, emphasizing the need for technically savvy smart buildings. He mentioned the Alesa Highland Sustainable City project as an example of bringing sustainable estates with cleaner energy to Nigeria. “I do not tell people to believe me when we are starting; I tell them to believe me when we are done. This is because we are going to do something that will not only make them want to partner with us but they would want to export us as one of those that are bringing the dream home,” China said.
The partnership between NSPE and My-ACE China represents a significant step towards promoting sustainable energy and addressing housing challenges in Nigeria.
