Share

OPay, one of the nation’s leading financial institutions, has extended its N1.2bn 10-year scholarship initiative to students of the University of Ilorin in a move to empower Nigeria’s youths.

In a statement made available to our correspondent on Tuesday, this marks the latest milestone in OPay’s ongoing commitment to supporting education across Nigeria, with the University of Ilorin now being the newest beneficiary.

According to the statement, the scholarship program is designed to alleviate financial barriers for talented students, allowing them to focus on their academic pursuits without the burden of financial stress.

OPay’s Managing Director, Dauda Gotring, emphasized that the initiative reflects the company’s mission to foster academic excellence and unlock opportunities for Nigerian youths.

“At OPay, we believe education is the key to unlocking individual potential and advancing our society,” Gotring said. “This N1.2bn 10-year scholarship programme is not just about supporting today’s students but investing in Nigeria’s future. We are committed to nurturing the brilliant minds who will shape the nation’s progress for years to come.”

The statement added that the MOU signing ceremony at UNILORIN was attended by key university officials, including the Vice Chancellor, Wahab Egbewole. He expressed gratitude to OPay for the initiative, noting that it aligns with the Nigerian government’s education agenda.

“We would like to express our gratitude to OPay for their remarkable scholarship initiative to support our students here at UNILORIN,” Professor Egbewole remarked. “This initiative shows that OPay is aligning with the education agenda of the federation.”

It noted that as the programme expands, OPay remains dedicated to providing young Nigerians with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive academically and professionally.

It was reported that a scholarship from OPay, a financial institution, has helped a student of the Ahmadu Bello University, Ayuba Bello, to achieve his dream of tertiary education while sparing his family land
