Oyo State has opened Day 1 of the 2025 International Agribusiness Summit with a major push to strengthen small agribusinesses through a new certification trademark, Grown in Oyo State. The mark was unveiled before agripreneurs, innovators and development partners, signalling a structured approach to improving product traceability, market credibility and export readiness for farmers and MSMEs. Stakeholders noted that clear verification will help small producers access premium buyers, reduce rejection risks in larger markets and build stronger trust in locally grown goods.
Attendance on the opening day reflected rising interest among youth agripreneurs, processors and smallholder cooperatives seeking visibility beyond traditional markets. Many participants described the certification as a competitive tool that could help brands stand out in retail chains, secure supply contracts with hotels and food companies, and build pathways into regional export. With food safety and quality assurance becoming key requirements for buyers, producers expect the ‘Grown in Oyo’ mark to unlock better pricing, investment attraction and packaging upgrades.
The State Government reaffirmed its commitment to expanding opportunities for agricultural MSMEs through improved standards, stronger value chain linkages and policies that position local producers for national and global competitiveness. Officials at the summit said the certification will be backed by continuous training for farmers and processors, alongside quality checks that ensure goods under the label meet market expectations.
As discussions continue into the summit’s next sessions, stakeholders are expected to explore how digital tracking systems, logistics support and processing hubs can help rural producers meet demand at scale. If successfully implemented, the initiative could boost food exports, reduce post-harvest losses and create more opportunities for youth and women-led agribusinesses across Oyo State.
