Oyo State Seeks Special Grant from WaterAid to Revive Water Sector
Share

The Oyo State Government is actively pursuing a special grant from the non-governmental organization WaterAid International to revitalize the state’s water sector. The Executive Chairman of Oyo State Water Corporation, Hon. Elias Adeojo, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the management of Nigerian Breweries Ltd. in Ibadan.

Adeojo explained that the intended partnership with WaterAid Nigeria aims to provide residents of Oyo State with access to safe and clean water. The grant, if secured, will target communities facing water scarcity, and inadequate sanitation facilities, and will promote sustainable hygiene practices.

The chairman emphasized the government’s commitment to the well-being of its citizens, which could make the state eligible for a 100,000 Euros grant from WaterAid International. The grant is specifically for water sanitation, hygiene, and extending water pipelines, with a focus on projects in African countries.

Adeojo assured that, if granted, the funds would be judiciously used for their intended purpose. He stressed that water provision is a substantial investment without significant returns but reiterated its importance as a social responsibility of the government.

During the visit, Adeojo appealed to the management of Nigerian Breweries for assistance in securing the WaterAid grant. The Brewery Manager, Mr. Seun Akinwale, praised the leadership qualities of Governor Seyi Makinde and pledged the brewery’s commitment to collaborate with the Oyo State Water Corporation in ensuring adequate water provision for the state’s residents.
