The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has officially launched its 2025/2026 Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme (OSS), calling on qualified Nigerian graduates to apply for fully funded study opportunities in select countries and institutions.
According to a statement shared on the Fund’s official X (formerly Twitter) platform, the restructured OSS programme is part of PTDF’s renewed commitment to grooming local talent for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, with a strong emphasis on local capacity development.
Under the scheme, selected candidates can pursue fully funded MSc programmes in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia. For PhD studies, full scholarships will be available in Germany, France, and Malaysia. However, candidates seeking PhD scholarships in the UK will only be eligible under a Split-Site Programme hosted at the PTDF College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Kaduna, in partnership with three UK universities: Robert Gordon University, the University of Strathclyde, and the University of Portsmouth.
The scholarships come with comprehensive financial support covering return airfare, health insurance, tuition and bench fees, as well as living expenses for the entire duration of study.
The Fund noted that the opportunity is available to academically qualified Nigerians seeking postgraduate degrees in fields aligned with the petroleum sector, such as engineering, geosciences, renewable energy, environmental science, and related disciplines.
Applications are to be submitted online via the PTDF Scholarship Management Portal, with the deadline for submission set for June 4, 2025.
The PTDF, a Federal Government agency under the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, was created to build indigenous capacity for the country’s oil and gas sector. Over the years, the Fund has empowered thousands of Nigerians through scholarships, research funding, and training programmes both locally and internationally. Its overarching goal is to reduce Nigeria’s dependency on foreign expertise by equipping local professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to drive sustainable growth in the energy sector.
