PTAD Disburses N55.9 Billion in Pensions and Arrears to Defined Benefits Pensioners
Share

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has disbursed a total of N55.9 billion in December 2025 to eligible Pensioners and Next-of-Kin of deceased Pensioners under the Defined Benefits Scheme (DBS). The payments include both monthly pensions and outstanding pension arrears.

Olugbenga Ajayi, Head of the Corporate Communications Unit at PTAD, stated that N13.411 billion was paid as monthly pensions across all pension departments, including Diaspora Pensioners, while N42.501 billion was disbursed as pension arrears.

The arrears cover outstanding obligations arising from the N32,000 pension increment, the 10.66 per cent and 12.95 per cent pension increments, as well as other accrued arrears, gratuities, and death benefits owed to eligible beneficiaries.

A breakdown of arrears payments across the pension departments shows that the Police Pension Department (PPD) received N5,881,592 paid to 5 pensioners, while the Customs, Immigration, and Prisons Pension Department (CIPPD) received N604,332,733.96 paid to 8,606 pensioners. The Civil Service Pension Department (CSPD) recorded N16,362,359,730.91 disbursed to 71,643 pensioners.

The Defunct and Transferred Agencies Department (DTAD) paid N15,066,055,536.83 to 24,995 pensioners, the Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD) disbursed N7,808,635,906.98 to 25,718 pensioners, and the Tertiary Education and Health Department (TEHD) paid N2,370,854,790.39 to 28,245 pensioners. Gratuity and death benefits totaling N289,109,536.99 were paid to the eligible Next-of-Kin of deceased pensioners.

Ajayi noted that with these payments, arrears resulting from the N32,000 pension increment have been fully cleared across all departments, except for one month still outstanding for pensioners under PaPD and TEHD.

Executive Secretary of PTAD, Tolulope Odunaiya, said the disbursements reflect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of senior citizens, in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. She also reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to clearing the remaining one-month arrears owed to PaPD and TEHD, while continuing to implement initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and overall well-being of DBS Pensioners.
