The Rural Electrification Agency (REA), in collaboration with Ernst & Young (EY), is organizing a workshop aimed at improving energy access through partnerships with state governments and distribution companies.
Following the enactment of the Electric Power Sector Reform Act (2023), this partnership underscores REA’s commitment to its mandate of enhancing reliable electricity supply for rural areas.
The workshop aims to establish pathways for accessing data on unelectrified communities, foster coordination among Discos, states, federal entities, and private partners, and explore collaboration opportunities while bridging information gaps.
Themed ‘Implementing the Electricity Act 2023: Improved energy access through collaboration with states and Discos—The Nigeria outlook,’ the workshop will take place in Abuja later this month.
EY will provide technical assistance to facilitate the workshop, focusing on understanding the Rural Electrification Strategy and Implementation Plan, challenges in implementing the RESIP and the Electricity Act 2023, and socio-economic factors.
Highlighting their commitment, EY emphasized their role in building trust, fostering sustainable growth, and promoting collaboration with stakeholders.
The workshop will delve into the provisions and implications of the Electricity Act 2023, particularly its role in rural electrification, renewable energy deployment, and regulatory enhancement.
In line with its objectives, REA plans to support 250,000 households with electric mobility, mini-grids, and home systems in 2024, furthering efforts to boost electricity access nationwide.
