The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has inked a grant agreement with mini-grid developers ACOB Lighting Tech. Ltd and Offgrid Electric Ltd under the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP). Funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the agreement aims to boost off-grid power generation in Jigawa and Nasarawa states, benefiting approximately 7,747 customers across various localities.
The grant agreement, facilitated under the Minimum Subsidy Tender (MST) sub-component, marks a transformative leap forward in providing sustainable and reliable energy sources. The project plans to deploy hybrid mini-grid solutions across 21 sites in Jigawa state managed by Offgrid Electric Ltd and five sites in Nasarawa State managed by ACOB Lighting Tech. Ltd.
With an average daily load of 9,044 kWh/day for Jigawa and 4,633 kWh/day for Nasarawa states, the initiative is expected to enhance energy access in these regions. Abba Aliyu, head of NEP’s Project Management Unit, expressed optimism about the positive impact of the agreement and urged developers to leverage opportunities for promoting the productive use of equipment (PUE) within communities.

MD of Offgrid Electric Limited, Khalis Muhammed, expressed excitement and projected a lasting impact, aiming for the facility’s longevity of up to 20 years or more.
