The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Oil and Sustainability Program (OSP) joins forces with Nigeria’s Ministry of Petroleum Resources to launch the National Human Capacity Training Programme for the Adoption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for clean cooking in Edo State.
This initiative, part of OSP’s Clean Fuel Solutions for Cooking Initiative (Forward7), aims to address the availability and accessibility gaps in adopting LPG for cooking. It involves establishing micro-distributed retail outlets across Nigeria and training local communities, particularly unemployed youths, to increase access to clean cooking solutions and create job opportunities.
The program aligns with Nigeria’s environmental and social development goals and Saudi Arabia’s Middle East Green Initiative’s (MGI) Clean Fuel Solutions for Cooking Initiative, which aims to provide clean cooking solutions to 750 million people worldwide.
Led by OSP, the program targets populations at risk from traditional cooking practices, such as using coal and wood, which pose health and environmental hazards. By promoting cleaner alternatives like LPG, biodigesters, and renewable energy, the initiative aims to mitigate health and environmental risks, ultimately saving lives.
The launch of the National Human Capacity Training Program for the Adoption of LPG marks a significant step towards Nigeria’s sustainability goals and contributes to global efforts to address challenges associated with traditional energy practices.
